Shelburne Farms was founded in 1886 by William Seward and Lila Vanderbilt Webb, two early Vermont settlers, as an example of what model agriculture could, and should, look like. Today, the lush 400-acre plot of land features a herd of more than 125 Brown Swiss cows, whose prime milk is made into award-winning cheddar cheese. The farm is just a drive west of Shelburne Bay, near the banks of Lake Champlain.
